Mid-America Sampler Pack by Jeff Carlson_82 on Flickr.
Mid-America Car in Kansas City, MO can always be counted on for variety, and my trip there this past weekend was no exception. Here, we’ve got a BNSF 70MAC in for engine work, a wreck damaged CSX AC4400 ( flic.kr/p/nHkQvT ), and one of Iowa Northern’s new, ex-ATSF slugs. Here’s what the slugs looked like on their way into MAC a few months ago: flic.kr/p/nrSk3E

Amtrak’s Pacific International heads north through Golden Gardens in Seattle en route to Vancouver, BC. This transition period featured steam generator cars to handle the steam heat still used by passenger cars dating back to the early 1950s. This train has an x-GN heater car rebuilt from an F3B, a former SLSF or MKT coach bought second hand by GN, and a former Wabash domed observation.
